The Mystery of God

There is a mysteriousness about the God of heaven. The mystery of God is the gap between Who God is and my understanding of who He is.  The finite will never figure out the infinite. The creature will forever be fascinated by the Creator whose ways are past finding out. This fascination of God is the stuff of worship.  The description of the mystery of God.

God is incomprehensible, “Who has known the mind of the Lord?” Rom. 11:34
Yet knowable, “Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God…” John 17:3

God is unapproachable, “...who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light…” 1 Tim. 6:16
Yet accessible, “...we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand…” Rom. 5:2

God is invisible, “...the King eternal, immortal, invisible…” 1 Timothy 1:17
Yet seen, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes…” 1 Jn. 1:1

God is high above us, “For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity…” Isaiah 57:15
Yet near, “The LORD is near to all who call upon Him.” Psalm 145:18

God is holy and separate from sinners, “...who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners…” Hebrews 7:26
Yet merciful to sinners, “God has committed them all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.” Romans 11:32

Who can fathom the greatness of the Lord? Who can envision the brilliance of His glory?  We will never be able to fully comprehend God but it sure is an exciting adventure to try!  The joy of our journey to know God better is not that we will one day figure Him out but that we will forever be fascinated in knowing there will be more to learn.

May our indescribable, incomprehensible, loving and personal God always be the object of our deepest love, appreciation and worship.  To Him be all the honor and the glory forever. Amen.
